Religious Philosophy

After completing the twenty-four series of lessons provided in this study requirement for the Master of Religious Philosophy (provided by ULC Seminary), I have concluded that it is one of the most valuable, coherent, comprehensive and insightful discourses regarding religion and the philosophical mystique surrounding it. The content of each lesson was easy to read and simplistically laid out in a reasoned and disciplined manner that challenged me to evaluate and approach each lesson from a studious method, rather than as a causal reader. Especially beneficial to me were the many colorful photographs, graphics, illustrations and their features.

Through the study and interpretation of all the information provided in this course I was able to systematically learn and rapidly grasp hold of the significance regarding the philosophical, epistemological, spiritual, mystical and metaphysical dynamics of religion and the basis for it. While moving through the first part of this course one prominent idea I gleaned from was, given the fact that religion is a human element and creation, it is also widely known and accepted that religion is somewhat difficult to define and comprehend.

In these lessons I interestingly discovered that despite religion and its practice being an ancient human creation, it appears that even in this postmodern society, most peoples around the globe have a different idea of what religion is, along with its so called “intrinsic benefits, rewards and punishments.” Be that as it may, I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and stimulation from this course. But what I found to be most positive and profitable was the way each lesson was outlined. In my view the lessons were thoughtfully designed in such a way so as not only to assist me to capture, in a timely and progressive manner, the reasons, meanings and essence of what religion is about, but to also brought me closer to a broader understanding of the diversities of religion, religious people and why it is such a pervasive and significant cultural phenomenon. Through the study of this course I am able to more clearly understand the philosophical sacredness of religion with all of its assorted belief systems that includes numerous dogmas, doctrines, disciplines and rituals.

As a long time member of ULC, Rev. Long created the seminary site to help train our ministers. We also have a huge catalog of Universal Life Church materials.  As an ordained minister with the Universal Life Church for many years and it's Seminary since the beginning, I've enjoyed watching the continual growth of the seminary.
